1. Robinhood Completes $200M Acquisition of Bitstamp
On June 3, U.S.-based trading platform Robinhood officially announced the acquisition of Bitstamp, one of the world’s oldest cryptocurrency exchanges, for $200 million in cash. According to Cointelegraph, this strategic move marks Robinhood's official entry into the European, U.K., and Asian crypto markets.
2. Strengthening Global Crypto Presence
The acquisition grants Robinhood access to more than 50 crypto licenses and registrations and a substantial institutional customer base exceeding 5,000 clients. Additionally, Bitstamp brings with it a network of 50,000 individual retail users, solidifying Robinhood’s global reach in the crypto sector.
3. Financials and Integration Strategy
In the last 12 months, Bitstamp generated $95 million in revenue, while Robinhood’s crypto division reported $252 million in Q1 2025 alone, reflecting rapid growth. Robinhood plans to integrate Bitstamp into its proprietary Legend platform and smart order routing system, enhancing execution efficiency for both retail and institutional clients.
4. Operational Costs and Further Expansion
Robinhood anticipates $65 million in acquisition-related costs during H2 2025. This acquisition follows another major move made on May 13, when Robinhood agreed to acquire Canadian crypto platform WonderFi for approximately $179 million, expanding its presence across North America.
5. Leadership Comments on Future Acquisitions
Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s Head of Crypto, told CNBC that additional acquisitions are being considered. “If this acquisition accelerates our roadmap by 18 months or more, then similar deals will definitely be on the table,” he said, underscoring the company’s aggressive crypto growth strategy.
6. Focus on Tokenization of Real-World Assets
Looking forward, Robinhood is preparing to delve deeper into tokenized real-world assets (RWA). CEO Vlad Tenev emphasized that tokenization — especially of private company shares — could be a game-changing opportunity for both retail and institutional investors, opening up previously illiquid markets to new participants.
